Announcement: New forum, new community profile

Ankündigung: Neues Forum, neues Community-Profil

In November 2018, I told you on the Migipedia blog how my relationship with my childhood sweetheart broke up years ago and a friend tried to comfort me by saying that the only constant in life is change. Of course, I found it difficult to accept this. But life has taught me that change is just part of it. Migipedia will also be undergoing changes in a few days.

Over the past few months, we have completely overhauled the forum and the community profile. We will be making the changes between September 30th and October 1st and launching a completely new software solution. I would like to give you a few days' notice of some of the changes to the forum and the community profile.

A few changes in the forum:

  • 60% of visitors use Migipedia with a cell phone. That's why we've given the forum and profile a graphic refresh, optimized them for smaller screens and created clearer structures.

  • We have largely retained the functionality of the forum. For the time being, the formatting options and image uploads in your posts are limited.

  • The forum search is rudimentary for the time being - the entire forum is simply searched for the search term entered. Over the next few months, we will measure how often the search is used and what is searched for. This should show us in which direction we need to develop the search further.

A few changes in the community profile:

  • Visually, the profile has changed completely. The profile is roughly divided into user information and information on activity in the community. The activity is divided thematically into so-called streams.

  • In addition to the user name and user picture, the user information contains a small summary of the community activities. The profile settings are mainly edited in the Migros login.

  • If you do not choose a profile picture or have not chosen one so far, we will randomly assign you one of eight so-called Migrojis. You can of course change your profile picture or Migroji at any time.

  • The option to send direct messages will no longer be available for the time being. If you would like to discuss topics with us, you can publish them in the forum or contact us by e-mail.

As part of these changes, the navigation of the site will also be streamlined and the home page will be combined with the product reviews overview page. The Migipedia news will no longer exist in its current form - more on the news will follow.

With all these changes, Migipedia now comes from a single source, both visually and technically. The speed of the entire website will increase noticeably. It cannot be ruled out that one or two minor problems may arise at the start, but in the longer term Migipedia should definitely be less prone to errors, which should also save you, dear community members, trouble. On behalf of the entire project team, I can say that we are very much looking forward to the new Migipedia and hope that this joy will spread to you in a few days' time. Of course you can then report on your experiences here, praise us and criticize us - but you know that.

With best regards and thanks

Philipp
