The other day I wanted to buy another muesli as a change from the Farmer Muesli. When I read through the list of ingredients, I was amazed to find that the Alnatura muesli (I think it was the one with the berries) contained palm oil.
Can someone tell me why a muesli needs palm oil of all things?
In general: why are consumers being tortured more and more with palm oil in products when we know that palm oil is not exactly environmentally friendly in terms of its origin, manufacture and production?

Yes, we are aware of the problems surrounding palm oil, as we have already written to @eisblume47 in the "Milanese lite dough" thread. In this thread, we also explain why Migros uses palm oil. We are happy to summarize this again in this thread: We are aware that palm oil is currently very controversial. That is why we are also committed to the production of sustainable palm oil. However, boycotting palm oil would not be a solution either, as this article from WWF shows.

Palm oil performs far better than other oils in life cycle assessments, especially with regard to land requirements(see also the WWF information sheet). Switching to other oils cannot be a permanent solution; the criticized environmental problems would merely be transferred to the other oils.

The only sensible way forward is therefore the sustainable cultivation of oil palms. This is why Migros has switched its palm oil to sustainable sources and checks this annually.

The term "sustainable palm oil" is not just an empty phrase on our part; we take the issue of palm oil very seriously. The palm oil that Migros uses in its food products is procured from suppliers in Switzerland. Our suppliers' producers are regularly audited for RSPO certification.
The RSPO criteria include the following points:

Prohibition of clearing primary forests and ecologically valuable habitats for plantations,

Protection of endangered animal and plant species,

Protection of water, soil and air (this means, among other things, no burning of forests),

Compliance with legal regulations, including land use and property rights,

prohibition of child labor, payment of minimum wages and freedom of association for plantation workers

Involvement and promotion of small farmers and

The claim by @stecki that we don't care about the challenges surrounding palm oil is simply not true! Migros has been committed to sustainable palm oil production for a long time.
