Is it really necessary to have this discussion about the sale of alcohol in Migros? The founder Duttwiler had his reasons for not putting alcohol on the shelves. Migros bought Denner for precisely this purpose, alcohol and smokers' goods. Isn't that enough ? Competition against your own company?

Surely it's about this new article? https://www.20min.ch/story/so-reagiert-social-media-auf-den-migros-entscheid-fuer-alkohol-293491020648 There are several topics about it here in the forum, the latest https://migipedia.migros.ch/de/forum/wenn-eine-abstimmung-zur-farce-wird?backtoboard=q%3D%26p%3D3%26sort%3Dlast_activity&reply=28d5b3f0-3d73-11ec-ac8d-933e10bf572f But Migros is keeping quiet. Don't they want to say anything? Is the price shameful and that's why they won't say anything?
But it's all over Twitter. Most people are outraged by the decision.
I also find the sale of alcohol in Migros unnecessary. I also wonder where the alcohol shelf goes? Is there no room at all? I fear that popular products will once again fall victim to the lack of space. It's best not to buy alcohol in Migros. As usual, demand determines supply.

Migros' response to this concern is that more and more own brands are disappearing: "You don't have to worry about our own brands. The proportion of own brands has been very stable at around 75% for several years. We are also constantly introducing new Migros products. ^ss
I think the decision is ok. What makes me wonder: What were Dutti's reasons for not selling alcohol? And to what extent do they still make sense today? If there's a Denner or Coop next to every Migros, and with online shopping options, I don't see any added value in Migros alone not selling alcohol. That would no longer protect anyone. Or am I misunderstanding something?
Short version of why there is no alcohol in order to combat the serious alcohol addiction in the country at the time. And a good marketing strategy but still with a purpose behind it. https://www.blick.ch/wirtschaft/genialer-marketingtrick-deshalb-verkauft-die-migros-keine-alkoholischen-getraenke-id16957830.html
Thank you! But as I understand from the article, the decision not to sell alcohol was also part of a sales strategy for alcohol-free cider. After all, the question is: is a ban on alcohol sales in Migros still appropriate and effective today? Dutti was a clever businessman and, to be honest, I'm not sure whether he would have stuck to it in this day and age. To all those who reject it: Then just don't buy alcohol at Migros.

It's not as simple as that. Dry alcoholics or addiction-free customers are not tempted to buy alcohol at Migros. Until now, they have been able to shop at Migros without any worries.
We are also against the sale of alcohol in Migros. It only takes up space for good food and drinks. And it is and remains a potentially harmful addictive substance, just like cigarettes. There are many people who are happy if they can even find a store without booze and cigarettes... it should stay that way, please?

Fortunately, as members of the cooperative, we have it in our own hands to reject this crazy idea in the truest sense of the word. I have often considered resigning my membership due to Migros' increasing alienation from its fundamental values. But this upcoming vote is a reason not to do so just yet. However, if the vote on alcohol sales goes through, I will accept this democratic decision - Migros will simply no longer be my Migros, because it can be replaced at will. It would then really be the last remaining argument for not identifying with this cooperative. PS: I myself am not averse to a good glass of wine or a liqueur/grappa with dessert from time to time, but I don't need to be able to buy them at Migros. However, there have been enough deterrent examples in my life so far, including among my close relatives, to hopefully prevent me from becoming addicted. Migros must remain an "addiction- and temptation-free zone" for people who urgently need it. And yes, the space in the store could definitely be put to better use. It's the favorite argument of those in charge whenever we miss a popular product.
The fact that Migros should not sell alcohol is no longer in keeping with the times, so I support the decision. However, I also hope that popular products (own brands) will not be removed from the shelves because of wine, beer and spirits!

Exactly not up to date...there are no more alcoholics now. Or those who no longer want to be.
