Fr. 5.95 per kilo is outrageous! I didn't buy it today and am glad that Aldi and Lidl exist!

Hello indios, thank you very much for your message. Migros attaches great importance to good cooperation with local farmers. That's why our purchasing departments do the same: We source regionally and from Switzerland whenever possible. If certain products are not available in Switzerland, we source them from abroad. Last week we started using 100% fennel from the region, which also increases prices. Basically, it is difficult to compare the prices of products from abroad with local products. However, we can say that the price is determined by various factors. One very important factor is the production costs (for machinery, wages, infrastructure, etc.) incurred by farmers. These vary from country to country. As the harvesting of fruit and vegetables is largely done by hand, labor costs play an important role. In Switzerland, these are high compared to other countries, partly because the wage level here is higher.a second factor is the interplay between supply and demand, which determines the price. This results in fluctuations, particularly in the fruit and vegetable sector: In a good harvest year, prices tend to be lower, in a bad harvest year, prices tend to be higher. In this whole interplay of different influencing factors, Migros strives to always offer the best value for money for its customers. We thank you for your understanding and look forward to welcoming you again. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

I won't be buying any more fennel from Migros at this price. It's too expensive for me. That's why I buy it from Aldi or Lidl, and the quality is often much better there.

Unfortunately, the fennel has become very small recently, why is that?

Small, brown and too expensive. I only buy it at Aldi now.

I think even the one from Aldi is bad... then rather the one from Migros

Hello Screamli, thank you for your question. The fennel is actually not quite as pretty at the moment. At the moment they look rather small and shriveled. This is due to the drought. The tubers have not been able to grow well in Switzerland as a result. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Quality has been very poor again for some time and at 08.30 in the morning only brown old fennel is on the shelf in 9500 Wil.

Fennel: If the "bulb" is still slightly green, is the fennel unripe?

No, fennel does not need to ripen. Fennel is a vegetable, not a fruit. It may have something to do with the variety (yes, there are varieties of fennel too).

Hello jeanine05, thank you very much for your message. As HirschiS says, fennel does not ripen. It simply grows until it can be harvested. Best regards, your M-Infoline team
