Hello Marielee, thank you very much for your inquiry. In some of our pet foods, we use very small amounts (less than 1%) of sugar as an ingredient. This is also the case in this product. The addition of sugar types in our recipes serves to perfect the taste of the product, as this sugar reacts with the other ingredients when the product is heated, as is also the case when preparing it at home. After this so-called Maillard reaction, the added sugar is consumed in the product. If a product contains certain types of sugar as ingredients, this is declared accordingly on the packaging.
