6 questions
Hello, today we received a letter from Migros Cumulus informing us that Espresso Classico is changing to Caruso. The 6 Caruso varieties are presented in the brochure. However, none of these varieties seem to have portion pads. Can the Espresso Classico portion pods still be purchased? If not, what is planned as a replacement for our favorite pods?
Hello teuschers, thank you for your question. We are happy to inform you that the Espresso Classico portions are still available. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Good day! Until recently I still had the 'old' pods: wider rim, sufficiently and compactly filled with coffee powder. Recently tested the new ones: the pods are too big, the powder is 'loosely' distributed, you sausage the part into the plunger... Result: coffee flows into the cup for a maximum of 5 seconds (with hardly any crema), followed by 'colored water', when the plunger is removed some more water runs out... The result: the coffee has hardly any aroma, is reminiscent of the cheap pods from Aldi & Co that you can buy in Germany for little money and the pods also contain less powder. The coffee tastes accordingly. It's a shame that I had bought 2 bags in stock and the weak 'espresso' coffee (which doesn't really deserve its name) tastes like sleepy feet. Why Migros keeps 'improving' products that were previously good and worked well is beyond me. It's probably to save costs, but that only drives customers away. Apparently I'm not the only one who has problems with the modified pads, yet there seems to be no interest in fixing this... Kind regards, barista customer with a claim. PS: Attached is a picture of 'old & new' for comparison - the look alone gives food for thought...
Hello Kicky3, thank you for your feedback. We have checked your request with our supplier. The optimized Espresso Classico pods are now climate-neutral and completely industrially compostable without aluminium. As you mentioned, the size of the coffee pod and therefore the handling in the portafilter is slightly different to its predecessor. However, we have not made any changes to the content (coffee). We are always interested in adapting our range even better to customer requirements and will look into making changes. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

There was some criticism and nothing has changed. Is the product likely to be removed from the range soon?
Hello ashn, thank you for your question. According to our tests, the functionality and the cup experience remain the same with the new pods. It is possible that the handling of the pads may differ slightly in connection with the optimizations. However, there are no plans to make any adjustments at this time. We are also not planning to remove the item from the range. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

When will Migros bring good 44mm food press pads into the range? It's just a huge mess with these large pads. I think the bulk packaging is good and ecologically sensible - far more ecological than the individual packaging of most pad ranges. And regardless of whether there are 28 or 56 pads in it, they fit in my tin and, if the quality is good, are used up quickly.
Hello Espresso64, thank you very much for your feedback. Unfortunately, this is not currently planned. The optimized Espresso Classico pods come in new packaging, which is made without aluminium and is climate-neutral. The pods themselves are also made from renewable raw materials and are therefore tested for industrial compostability. In connection with these optimizations, you may notice a slight difference in the handling of the pods compared to the previous product. The functionality and the cup experience remain the same with the new pods. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Hello Infoline Team The packaging is not the problem, but the pods. The E.S.E. standard that is becoming established is 44mm with 7gr. coffee and necessary for an average to high quality machine. Your pods are 70mm wide, correspond to the Senseo standard and are therefore made for their softener machines ;-) with > 3 bar.
This results in the following problems: - Your pods are too large for most piston machines > therefore no longer fulfill their main purpose - the larger pods cause various problems, e.g. - they can no longer be inserted into the sieve insert without wrinkles - the piston can no longer be engaged properly - the wrinkles prevent smooth brewing - the coffee no longer tastes equally intense - the pods tear when they are removed - the pods feel like they contain less coffee: the pods should be firm, not so windy when filled.
> The benefits and quality have been reduced for some users, as you can see from the latest reviews. Will you stick with the Senseo standard? > The problem could be solved with slightly smaller and therefore more compact pods without having to go straight to the ESE standard. Kind regards from a coffee-addicted customer :-)
The problem with the size of the pods is perfectly described here, that's exactly how I feel. I use a DeLonghi Dedica and can no longer use the pods because of their size.
Exactly. I have the DeLonghi EC 850.M and the pods simply no longer fit properly in the plunger. That's a real shame. I'm now putting up with the mess of loose coffee, but at least I'll have the desired strength.
Hello Ladila, thank you very much for your feedback. Our pads are not and have never been suitable for the E.S.E. format. However, if inserted correctly, the pad should also work in the E.S.E. machine, but it is not optimized for this. Unfortunately, we do not offer E.S.E. pads in our range. Nevertheless, we have forwarded your points to the supplier and the relevant specialist department. Kind regards, your M-Infoline team
Hello M Infoline, so you think that all those who respond to the product review or feedback here are suddenly no longer able to insert the pods correctly? It's a shame that I no longer have to take the coffee with me when I go shopping at Migros, but have to order it elsewhere online. Unfortunately, the coffee is individually packaged, but fits in the machine.
I now use Borbone, tastes great, but is unfortunately individually wrapped. What can others recommend?
I ended up at Blaser Café - partly because of the aluminum-free pack of 20. You could add them to your range, dear Migros, then the 44mm users would be happy again :-)
Hello aibaf, thank you for your suggestion, which we have submitted to our specialist department as requested. We will continue to follow the issue closely. After all, our aim is to offer products that people like to buy. PS: The packs of pods are now aluminium-free. There have been no changes to the coffee. The size of the coffee pod differs as a result of this change, which also affects handling in the portafilter. The pad is now slightly more difficult to insert into the holder. For optimum handling, we recommend first running hot water through the portafilter for 10 seconds so that the machine is preheated. You can then press the pads lightly into the tray to ensure that they are fully sealed. If too much pressure is applied, the water will run out of the pods. This should be avoided. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Will Migros have the product improved to give it back its old flavor and quality? Or will it stay that way?
Hello Tec-chic, thank you for your message. Can you give us a more detailed description of why you are no longer satisfied with the product? The optimized Espresso Classico pods come in new packaging, which is made without aluminium and is climate-neutral. The pods themselves are also made from renewable raw materials and are therefore tested for industrial compostability. The handling of the pods differs slightly from the previous product. However, nothing should have changed in terms of functionality and the cup experience. Best regards, your M-Infoline team
Hello M-Infoline team, Ladila describes it in great detail above. The pads are too big and, in my opinion, no longer meet the ESE standard. It would be great if Migros could bring the pads back to the standard dimensions of before in terms of coating and filling quantity. Then I would buy the product again. Thank you.
Hello Tec-chic, thank you very much for your feedback. Unfortunately, our pads with a diameter of 57 mm do not fit into an E.S.E. format. This has a diameter of 44 mm. We want to continuously optimize our range and adapt it even better to customer needs. This is why the revised Espresso Classico pods are now climate-neutral and completely industrially compostable without aluminum. The size of the coffee pod and therefore the handling in the portafilter is slightly different to its predecessor. The pod is slightly more difficult to insert into the pod holder, but does not require any major effort. For optimum handling, we recommend first running hot water through the portafilter for 10 seconds so that the machine is preheated. Then press the pods lightly into the tray so that it is tight everywhere. Otherwise, no pressure will build up and the water will run past the pod, resulting in watery coffee. Best regards, your M-Infoline team
Hello M-Infoline Team Yes, that's what we meant - the pad no longer fits in normal portafilters. If you want to better optimize to customer needs, then I would suggest offering at least one alternative product. Ultimately, climate neutrality and compostability are of no use if it is no longer bought. But maybe other consumers won't find the new pads as bad as we have commented on them here. I have tried them and will no longer be buying them in this format. Greetings and Merry Christmas.
But Switzerland is not a pads country... Pads are now available almost nowhere...
