Can someone tell me why there are strawberries for sale now (out of season) and then still in action?
Why not? At least they are from Spain and not like avocado from the end of the world? This fruit wouldn't need it either... What makes strawberries so much worse than the rest of the fruit? Strawberries are probably bought a lot (I see a lot of people buying strawberries in the stores I visit), which is why there is a demand for them. If you don't want to support this, don't buy strawberries. If there are too few, Migros will then stop it.
Hello Why001, we understand your wish to be able to find only seasonal Swiss products on the shelves. However, Migros sees it as its task to cover the needs and wishes of a wide range of customers. We are aware that there are people who consider the import of fresh products to be unnecessary. For many, however, they are still important. Our customers should be able to decide for themselves which products they want to buy and which not. We provide them with the information they need to make this decision. For example, the origin of each individual product is listed on the products or on the shelves and racks.
The strawberry season is actually starting slowly in Spain, which is why they are now also available here and we are therefore selling the fruit in promotions. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

What is MIGROS doing about the environment and early harvest berries from Spain? It's a shame that only the quality of the berries is an issue here and not HOW they are produced: see SRF News 18.03.2022: Berries cause water shortage in Andalusia: Strawberries that we can currently buy often come from Andalusia. And they need water, which is scarce there. .... Conservationists are outraged. The Doñana Nature Park in Huelva is suffering in particular.... The WWF writes: "300 liters of water are used to produce one kilo of strawberries - this water is urgently needed by the animals and plants in the Doñana wetlands. 23 leading European retailers, fruit traders and processors are campaigning for the survival of the Doñana and are jointly calling on the Andalusian regional government to stop the illegal agricultural use of 1,900 hectares instead of legalizing it as planned." MIGROS writes: What is also important to us - Plastic & packaging 👎👎👎👎 - Recycling 👎 - Climate & energy 👎👎👎👎👎 - Food waste - - Biodiversity 👎 - Strategy & goals - Is MIGROS using its profits to "fight for the survival of the Doñana"? I certainly do NOT buy foreign early harvest berries! Kind regards Corinne Lachat
Hello CorinneLachat, we are campaigning for more sustainable strawberries from the Coto de Doñana National Park. You can find all the information on this website: https://www.migros.ch/de/unternehmen/nachhaltigkeit/nachhaltige-produkte/unsere-fortschritte/fruechte-gemuese/erdbeeren.html. Where can I find SWISS strawberries for 5.90 per 500g? Publicity grabber?
Hello AndenmattenJoelle, thank you for your inquiry. In which region are you looking for these strawberries? Best regards, your M-Infoline team
In the Montreux area at the end of February, you can find Swiss strawberries at .... even though it's very sunny on the Riviera. Is it really in season?
Hello AndenmattenJoelle, thank you for your message. I apologize for the confusion caused by this photo. You're right: it's not yet strawberry season in Switzerland. The photo was chosen to show that we offer both Swiss products and imported goods. In this case, we clearly missed the mark. Swiss products are priced accordingly. Items from abroad, on the other hand, are marked as "Daily price". We will take this difference into account in future to avoid misunderstandings. In the meantime, we would like to thank you for your valuable feedback. With kindest regards, your M-Infoline team

Why not cardboard packaging?
Thank you for your message. The strawberry packaging is indeed being redesigned. Adaptations like these often take a long time. Please be patient. Regional strawberries are already sold in cardboard trays. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Dear Migros Why are your strawberries packaged in plastic when there are also containers made from recycled cardboard?
Thank you for your comment El_Braetzelibueb. At Migros, we have several experts working every day to optimize our packaging and test alternative materials. Where it makes sense, we replace plastic. However, plastic packaging often has a better environmental footprint than other materials, which is why it is not expedient to do without plastic packaging in general. For example: although a kilo of paper or cardboard is more environmentally friendly than a kilo of plastic, a lot more paper or cardboard is usually needed for packaging. A complete switch to cardboard or paper would therefore not make ecological sense. Furthermore, in our country, non-recyclable waste is incinerated in waste incineration plants and the energy is recovered in district heating networks. This in turn is used to produce electricity. Bought Swiss strawberries yesterday 18.6.16 at Migros Liestal. Looked large and fresh in the packaging. Flavor was also good from the edible ones. But among the top strawberries, half of the strawberries were half rotten. Not rotten, but totally mushy and almost all liquid (result of the vinegar cherry fly?). For my part, I'm keeping my hands off Swiss fruit at the moment. It is incomprehensible to me that imported strawberries keep better than products from Switzerland, despite longer transportation routes and transportation times.
Hi Peter58, thank you for your contribution. We're sorry that you weren't able to enjoy the strawberries. The wet, cold weather made it difficult for production this year. The varieties used in imports cannot be compared with the local varieties. There are hundreds of different types of strawberries. In our region, we normally use strawberry varieties that have a higher sugar content than imported goods. However, as already mentioned, the weather has been extremely unfavourable so far, so we have had losses of up to 60%. Hopefully next year will be better again! Best wishes, your M-Infoline team

Would it be possible to know the origin of the product in more detail? I read "Italy" as the country of origin of the product in question. Some agricultural areas in southern Italy have been subject to major contamination by hazardous waste, illegally dumped by eco-mafias in industrial waste disposal. I would like to make sure that the product does not come from those areas, and I am precisely asking for your confirmation, as the original label is no longer available.Thank you http://www.rsi.ch/la1/programmi/informazione/patti-chiari/le-segnalazioni/Fragole-provenienti-dalla-terra-dei-fuochi-alla-Migros-di-St.-Antonino-4047917.html
Hi asvero, we thank you for your inquiry. All of our Italian strawberries are currently sourced from the province of Verona in Northern Italy. As a rule, by entering into a contract with Migros, suppliers undertake to comply with the legal provisions and Swiss legislation concerning food products. The supplier is also responsible for compliance with all legal regulations, particularly those of the EU. In addition to this, Migros requires additional standards and certification of production, packaging and logistics companies by independent inspection bodies. As part of our internal controls, we have laboratory analyses performed at regular intervals to ensure that the maximum residue levels stipulated by law are not exceeded. We can assure you that our strawberries pose no risk to consumption. If you have any questions, we are at your complete disposal.Sincerely.Your M-Infoline Team

So I bought the normal strawberries. 500 gr. for Fr. 5.40 . When I wanted to prepare them at home, I was in for a shock. Only the skin on the outside was red, about 1 mm. The rest on the inside was white and hard. So you couldn't eat anything. And the best thing was that when I wanted to return them the next day, I was told that they couldn't check them all and that there was a small risk. So I only went to fields where you can pick them yourself or the farmer gives them to you. And that was strawberries. They lasted a whole 5 days without rotting. I am disappointed with the Migro strawberries.
Dear funkigirl
Thank you very much for your valuable feedback. We are sorry that you were unable to enjoy the strawberries. Products of impeccable quality are also very important to us.
We try to guarantee this quality by setting clear requirements for our suppliers on the one hand and by carrying out strict checks on incoming goods on the other.
However, certain quality deviations are hardly recognizable visually. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
We have informed the relevant departments in Purchasing and Quality Assurance.
Kind regards from the M-Infoline team

Strawberries from the region tasted great and the freshness was convincing even after a few days in the fridge. Swiss and regional organic strawberries are now also available, which I prefer.
Dear Twilight
Thank you very much for your comment.
We are delighted that you are happy with our strawberries.
See you soon in your Migros!

Wanted to buy strawberries in the Migros Marktgasse, Sat 14.6.14 near Information.
Ugh, I'll leave it, red color sprayed over strawberries and leaves, where is your
food control ?
Hello guest
Thank you for your message. Our producers do not artificially color the strawberries in any case. This would not be permitted (and would also be too time-consuming and costly).
We suspect that the red "color" was strawberry juice and it can happen that a carton is crushed during transport and the juice of the fruit inside splashes over other cartons.
We assure you that we do not use any color and hope that you can enjoy our strawberries again in the future.
Best regards from the M-Infoline team
