Uh, what's palm oil or fat doing in this product? Can it not be cheap enough to produce or what?

Hello dundee1983, thank you very much for your post. JOWA AG only uses first-class raw materials to manufacture its products. These include butter and vegetable fats. The fats used have a decisive influence on the quality of the products. However, the fats must have a firm consistency at room temperature, which is not the case with many vegetable fats. JOWA's quality credo defines that, where technologically possible, only unhardened vegetable fats are used. We want to avoid the possibility of hardening liquid fats because this produces trans fatty acids, which are questionable from a nutritional point of view. Consequently, only coconut, palm and palm kernel oils come into question. In addition to their ideal textural properties, these oils also have a neutral taste and are stable to heat and oxidation. We do not use palm oil as an individual component, but only as an ingredient in raw materials. It is used there for technological reasons because, unlike other vegetable oils, it is solid at room temperature. When using palm oil, we also ensure that sustainable cultivation is supported. We use vegetable margarine, which contains palm oil as well as rapeseed oil, and cream powder with palm oil to make the cream slice. This is exclusively sustainably produced, certified palm oil. Fat in the cream is necessary to give the filling the required stability. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Are the emulsifiers and gelling agents used made from animal products?

Good morning @TogGelling agents are additives that are always of vegetable origin. They are either declared with their name (e.g. "pectin") or with an E number (e.g. E440). In all JOWA products (bread, doughs, pizzas, cakes, fresh baked goods etc.) only emulsifiers and glycerine of vegetable origin are used. If JOWA products contain ingredients from pigs, this can be seen directly from the list of ingredients (e.g. "pork gelatine"). Source: Nutrition factsheets Best regards Frederica

"Stracciatella Crèmeschnitte (7 616700 219845)

I could have bitten into the puff pastry with crème and chocolate chips without turning the slice and eaten it with my fist. But when I pried off a piece with the grapefruit spoon (a kind of coffee spoon with teeth), the slice buckled slightly and was split. The crème mixture remained between the puff pastry and did not spill out as is usual with crème slices. As a result, the pastry felt hard and dry and the taste was not intoxicating either!
