What is CPLA?

Hello eleven212, thank you for your inquiry. PLA stands for "polylactic acids". Polylactic acids are formed with starch from corn, potatoes or beets. The plants develop the starch through photosynthesis. The basis for PLA is mainly industrial maize. This maize is planted on soil that is not suitable for food maize. Currently, 0.02 % of global maize cultivation is used for PLA. CPLA is produced in a similar way to PLA. However, it is not heat-resistant, which is why talc powder is added to CLPA. The PLA is crystallized. The C therefore stands for "crystallized = crystallized PLA".

CPLA consists of 70-80% PLA and 20-30% talc powder. The addition of the talc powder makes the material opaque and hard. CPLA is 100% compostable bioplastic that is heat-resistant up to 85°C. Compared to conventional PET plastic, the production of CPLA causes 60% less CO2 emissions. PLA is compostable according to DIN EN 13432. This means that PLA decomposes by up to 90% in 90 days in an industrial composting plant. Best regards, your M-Infoline team
