2 questions:
1) Why is the price different by region? It's an imported fruit and the cost of bringing it to Switzerland is the same for all Migros cooperatives.
2) Clementines are not mandarins. They don't have the same texture and, above all, they don't taste the same. Why doesn't Migros sell tangerines?
Hi, there,
To answer your question, we need to go back over the history of our company: Migros was founded as a public limited company. In 1941, its founder, Gottlieb Duttweiler, decided to give the company to his customers and transform it into a cooperative (today, 2 million Swiss people own Migros). This legal form of cooperative has various consequences. One of them is that Migros is made up of 10 regional cooperatives, which act independently from a legal point of view. This means that the different cooperatives can set their own prices according to regional characteristics (infrastructure costs, handling, shipping, logistics, preparation, personnel, etc.).
We sell mandarins between October and December. Some cooperatives also offer mandarins for longer periods.
Mandarins are only sold seasonally, because we set very high quality standards. We offer the following varieties: Okitsu, Owari, Igwasaski, Paterno, Nadorcott, Murcott, Mandared and Mandalate.
We hope we have answered your questions to your satisfaction, and remain at your disposal for any further information you may require.
Best regards
