I was very surprised to discover this product at Migros. It's a very elegant, top-of-the-range product. Made in France according to a family recipe handed down from generation to generation, it is made with rigorously selected ingredients. Its pronounced sweetness makes it ideal for use in sauces, poultry stuffings (in combination with other ingredients) and pastry applications, rather than as a spread. In France, this product is part of our culinary heritage and is often given as a gift. It is very different from the caramel chestnuts found in Switzerland.
One of the reasons why I drove across the border every fall to go shopping. They are also available in tubes in France, which would be even more practical.
