I like the soup too, but I have just realized with horror that one can (which I occasionally have as a snack) covers as much as 60% of my total salt requirement! Couldn't the salt content be reduced a little?
Hello panda 87
Soups do indeed contribute significantly to your daily salt intake, especially when large quantities are consumed as a complete meal. The salt content of this barley soup is 0.9g/100g, which is not excessive, and the scope for adding salt is quite narrow from a taste perspective.
From a nutritional point of view, the daily balance is decisive. If you eat bread, cheese and meat products in addition to soup, you are consuming too much salt overall. Fruit, yoghurt, vegetables, potatoes, fish, etc., prepared with spices and herbs instead of a lot of salt or seasoning, on the other hand, balance things out in every respect.
