Dear M-Infoline, Is South Africa with its 13'000 km distance the solution at all?!!! In addition, most fruits from South Africa arrive totally unripe, and do not go through the ripening process at all, but rot. We have several countries in Europe that produce oranges, and depending on the varieties, you can enjoy very good oranges all year round. So, once again, WHY SOUTH AFRICA. Thank you for a truthful answer. Thank you very much.
Hello catalanf, thank you for your message. As we wrote in the comments below, Migros has the principle of always sourcing a product from the geographically closest destination. Of course, availability and the high quality and product safety we demand must be guaranteed. If a product is in season in Switzerland and there is sufficient local produce available, we source our products from Switzerland. It is not without reason that Migros is an important partner of Swiss agriculture and also endeavours to ensure that the entire domestic production can be marketed. We support and employ local producers, but we also bear an international responsibility and make an important contribution to development aid in third world countries. It is crucial that the origin of Migros products is clearly declared so that every customer has the freedom to decide whether or not to buy them. You can find additional information on Migros' commitment to people, animals and nature at https://generation-m.migros.ch/de.html. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Oranges VALENCIA LATE
in small print: Origin South Africa.
Is that really necessary?
Dear guest
Thank you for your comment.
Valencia is an orange variety. In other words, it is a Valencia orange from South Africa.
Migros has the principle of always sourcing a product from the geographically closest destination. Of course, availability and the high quality and product safety we demand must also be guaranteed.
With the clear declaration of origin on the product labels or at the point of sale, everyone has the opportunity to decide for themselves which origin they prefer and when they buy the products.
We assure you that a product that is not purchased by our customers will be withdrawn from sale.
If you have any further questions, please contact us - we will be happy to help you.
Best regards from the M-Infoline team

Is there a reason why oranges, whether individually or in 1 kg or 2 kg bags, have to be so sour? I recently ate oranges and grapefruits on vacation in the south, they were so ripe and sweet and had a taste, whereas the oranges and grapefruits here in Switzerland taste like unripe lemons. Is this acidity a customer request or is it perhaps not possible to do otherwise because of the long delivery routes? Wouldn't it be possible to import ripe oranges?
Hello guest
Generally speaking, it is difficult to get fruit onto the shelves at the optimum degree of ripeness. On the one hand, the goods should arrive in the stores ripe and full of flavor, but on the other hand they have to be easy to transport - as you also write. We don't want the fruit to spoil a few days after delivery.
We have to meet these two very different requirements.
We hope this answer has been helpful and wish you a happy new year 2011.
Best regards
