Can you say exactly where the pine nuts you offer in this organic packaging come from? The term 'Mediterranean' is not specific to a region or a single continent country. There are countries in Europe but also Asia and Africa in the Mediterranean region. See Wikipedia link: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mittelmeerraum. The pine nuts from Italy, which are harvested from forests that have a large (organic) production, would be sufficient for the Swiss market, wouldn't they? And the Swiss customer is already prepared to pay more for organic. These pine nuts are full of flavor and the difference to Asian pine nuts is huge. You often see pine nuts (also organic) imported from China and sold in Switzerland and Europe.
These have a completely different flavor than the European ones. They are also different in shape and size. The Chinese imports have several different pine varieties, including the Korean pine (lat. Pinus Koraiaensis). The taste is not noticeable, these are characterized by being smaller and most have a brown spot at the end of the nut (see picture uploaded here). However, they are not intended for consumption. And this unfortunately triggers a syndrome in people who are sensitive to it, which causes a bitter or metal-like taste for weeks or months.
The vague indication of origin is not realistic and not exactly customer-oriented.
It has a marketing purpose, but is not true to the information. The sustainability and Nutriscore are therefore not fair either. Especially if you order organic and the normal customer only thinks of Italy, Greece, Turkey and Spain when they hear the word Mediterranean. So it would be good if you were more specific about the origin of these pine nuts. This would be much better for Migros and for customers. So you can decide for yourself whether you want it or not. And people who are susceptible to the syndrome can avoid it (or not). Thank you for your time and feedback.
Hello dejaair, thank you very much for your inquiry and the photo. We can see from your comments that the topic is close to your heart and that you are working intensively on it. This makes it all the more important for us to respond to your concerns in a well-founded manner. The clarifications we made with the specialist department took a while. We apologize for our late response. We no longer wish to withhold the results of our discussions from you. The country of origin of the pine nuts is printed on the back of the packaging. We mainly source the products from Italy. However, depending on availability, we may also source from Spain. So much for the term "Mediterranean region". As we limit ourselves to the European part, the nuts come from the Mediterranean pine. We hope this information is informative for you. Best regards, your M-Infoline team
