I recently bought some organic almonds (whole almonds) that were on sale. I’ll never buy them again because quite a few of them are bitter (I had to spit them out and rinse my mouth)!
What a shame.
Can I return the one unopened 200g package?

Unfortunately, I returned the unopened package of organic almonds a few days ago at the Migros Info desk (Zentrum Oberland), explained why I was returning them, and received a refund. As a result, I can no longer send you these organic almonds by mail.

Our specialist department has reviewed the case together with the supplier. The organic almonds from Spain come from a different variety than almonds from the U.S. They have a more intense aroma, often a slightly thicker, fuzzy skin, and therefore sometimes taste slightly more bitter.
Occasionally, a bitter almond may be found among the Spanish organic almonds. In Spain, sweet and bitter almond trees often grow close together. If a bitter almond tree pollinates the flower of a sweet almond tree, a bitter almond may result. Unfortunately, it is impossible to distinguish it from a sweet almond by appearance alone.
We carefully inspect every shipment for the presence of bitter almonds. The batch you mentioned also met our established quality standards. However, the occasional occurrence of naturally occurring bitter almonds cannot be completely ruled out. In addition, climatic factors—such as drought—can affect the taste and quality of the almonds.

Dear Migros Team Yesterday we baked cinnamon stars with these almonds and noticed that there were fine blue plastic threads everywhere. These can still be found in the cinnamon stars. I returned the products to the store in Lachen with the evidence of the threads. I was kind enough to get my money back. However, I very much hope that you will immediately analyze why there is plastic residue in this organic product! Thank you very much for the clarifications saranja

Every fifth almond now tastes like prussic acid, really annoying.

In order for us to investigate this matter of bitter almonds, we need the M-date (date of sale and/or consumption) and the batch or lot number of the item in question. This is normally located next to the best-before date and usually begins with the letter L or a mixture of letters and numbers. Please provide us with this information, as we cannot make any further clarifications without it.

The organic almonds are characterized by poor quality. There are a few bitter ones in every pack. That is bitter.

We have checked our samples and found no deviations from the quality standard. The almonds are checked both on receipt of the goods and during production, and no deviations were found there either. In general, the proportion of bitter almonds must not exceed 1% in accordance with our requirements, otherwise the goods will not be accepted.

I received two packs of unground organic almond kernels from Migros as a gift (I usually buy the "normal" ones): One pack was fine, the second was totally inedible. Some of the kernels tasted normal, but many had such a strong prussic acid aroma that I had to dispose of the pack (and the dish with the almonds in it). Even after brushing my teeth the aroma didn't go away, disgusting! I will buy the "normal" (not organic) ones again in future, I have never had this problem with them.
