Why does a product with vitamins and intestinal bacteria get an E in the NutriScore (while a ready-made pizza gets a C)?
Sugar
Hello Z1pf3lkl4tsch3r, the Nutri-Score summarizes the nutritional value of a product and offsets positive nutritional properties - a high protein or fibre content, a high proportion of vegetables or fruit - against negative properties - a high proportion of energy, saturated fatty acids, sugar or salt. Different criteria are relevant depending on the product group. In the case of drinks, the use of sweeteners has recently also been assessed negatively.
This mixed calculation of nutritional values results in the colored Nutri-Score, which is visible on the packaging or online and ranges from a green A to a red E. The Nutri-Score makes it possible to recognize at a glance which product in a range of comparable products (a Bifidus drink can therefore not be compared with a ready-made pizza) is the better choice in terms of nutritional properties. The Nutri-Score only assesses the nutritional properties of a product, not its degree of processing or its origin (conventional, organic/bud). The poor Nutri-Score of the Bifisus drink is due to the sugar content on the one hand and the energy content on the other. Transparency is particularly important with such products - and certainly also an incentive for us to look at the recipes of such products and improve them where possible. Best regards, your M-Infoline team
