Apple juice may contain a maximum of 10% pear juice From the "Ordinance of the Federal Department of Home Affairs (FDHA) on Beverages": Fruit juice may contain: 1. apple juice: a maximum of 10% pear juice by mass or the corresponding amount of concentrate; 2. pear juice: a maximum of 10% apple juice by mass or the corresponding amount of concentrate; Strickhof (competence center for agriculture, food and home economics in Canton Zurich) describes it as follows: "In the Beverage Ordinance, sweet cider belongs to the fruit juice chapter. Fruit juice is an unfermented juice made from healthy and ripe fruit with a characteristic taste, aroma and color. Any mixture of apple and pear juice can be called pome fruit juice, fruit juice or sweet cider. Apple juice may be called apple juice if it contains no more than 10% pear juice by mass. Conversely, this also applies to pear juice, which may contain a maximum of 10 percent apple juice by mass. If reference is made to a single type of fruit (e.g. Gravensteiner apple juice), the fruit juice must contain at least 80% Gravensteiner by mass.

Hello Andrea_99, thank you for the question. Sweet cider is usually not pure apple juice, but a mixture of pure, cloudy apple juice and pear juice. Apple juice, for example, does not contain any alcohol. Sweet cider can (but does not necessarily) contain little alcohol and contains no or very little carbon dioxide. Apple and pear cider is made from cider fruit, which has a higher tannin content than fruit intended for consumption. The juice, known as sweet must, is pressed from the fruit using a cider press. If the sweet must is not preserved by heating or other methods, the fructose it contains ferments into alcohol and the alcohol-free sweet must becomes cider. Best regards, your M-Infoline team
