Dear Migros Why is palm oil used in the manufacture of this product? I would prefer it if no palm oil were used in Migros' own products, because this conveys a negative image. Migros gives me the impression of being exemplary and it advertises regional products in a big way. That's why I think that palm oil has no place in products like this.
Hello Alexundr, thank you for your post. Palm oil is used for this product for the following reasons. Palm oil is one of the few vegetable fats that is already solid at room and refrigerator temperature (unlike olive oil, rapeseed oil, etc.) and therefore does not need to be hardened. This is an advantage in production, as incomplete hardening produces the undesirable trans fatty acids. Alternatives would be artificially hardened fats or animal fats. Palm oil is also required for the consistency of the vermicelli. In 2004, Migros and the WWF founded an international organization, the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). The aim is to improve palm oil production worldwide. Today, it is the only instrument for promoting environmentally friendly palm oil plantations that also covers social aspects and human rights. Migros is also involved in an alliance of retailers within the RSPO (RPOG Retailers' Palm Oil Group). This organization includes representatives from palm plantations, the processing industry, social and environmental organizations, banks and retailers. We use palm oil from sustainable cultivation for our products. Best regards, your M-Infoline team
