Palm oil is extremely popular as a starting material for surfactants. Soaps made using palm oil are particularly mild and creamy, their lather is fine and stable. The downside of this raw material is the environmental damage caused by conventional cultivation, such as cleared tropical forests and thus enormous greenhouse gas emissions as well as endangered animal species. Under ecologically and socially compatible cultivation methods, palm oil becomes a particularly sustainable vegetable oil, as the palm oil fruit is one of the highest-yielding oil fruits.
