Hello
I used to buy organic ground linseed for my muesli. Unfortunately, they are no longer available, so I had to buy these linseeds. But now I have read on the packaging that they should only be eaten when cooked.
I am quite unsure whether I can continue to add them to my muesli. The packaging was also in the breakfast cereals section....
Greetings
You should always soak or cook linseed (whether alnatura or the organic ground linseed) because of the hydrocyanic acid... but you can also use the product without cooking if you can tolerate linseed without cooking...
Hello migros_chind, since February 25, linseed with a hydrocyanic acid content of over 150 mg/kg must carry the warning "For cooking and baking only. Not for eating raw." must be printed on the product. Linseeds with a hydrocyanic acid content of less than 150 mg/kg do not need this warning and can be eaten directly (without heating). The manufacturer of our organic gold linseed(https://www.migros.ch/en/product/104222300000) has confirmed to us that they only procure linseed with a reduced prussic acid content. This means that a warning on the packaging is no longer necessary. Best regards, your M-Infoline team
Alnatura comments on the Alnatura ground linseed https://www.migros.ch/en/product/104289300000 as follows: " On the occasion of the adoption of Regulation (EU) 2022/1364, we specifically looked at the declaration of the articles in question. The statement "Use only for cooking and baking. Do not consume raw!" was added to the packaging of Alnatura linseed products as a precautionary measure on the recommendation of our manufacturing partners. A market comparison shows that the label is also widely used on competitors' linseed products.
