I've recently noticed that many products are discounted by 40% instead of the usual 50%. Is this for economic reasons?
I also wonder how these discounts come about; for example, 33% seems rather strange.
I would also like to know how long/how much products are discounted before they end up in the trash.

I wouldn't describe a 50 percent discount as standard at Migros. Half-price promotions are only offered on a case-by-case basis. Coop, on the other hand, decided at the beginning of the year to reduce items that are about to expire by only 40 percent instead of 50 percent as before. This is obviously for economic reasons; I can't think of any other possible reasons for this. However, Coop is still better than Migros with 33 percent.
