I need too much time for the fruit and vegetables, as memorizing numbers is not one of my strengths when shopping. (So I walk to the scales several times.) How about clever categories and pictures, possibly with text on the scales (same system as with self-checkout for baked goods)?
Let's take bananas, how do the pictures differ for organic, Fairtrade and budget bananas? Not to mention apples and tomatoes. The display would be huge and the next complaint would be something like "I can't get to the top pictures".

I don't quite understand the question: 1 for bananas, 69 for potatoes, 4 for Gala apples, 33 for pears Alexander ? - so mostly 2-digit numbers... I would take a notepad with me and write them down, then I would put these numbers at the beginning of the notepad I create at home.

Hello Chloe So I'm actually very good with numbers ;-), what I was getting at is that a 2 for the Bannanen Max Havelar and the 46 for the Gala apples in the shopping basket are not very intuitive. However, if there is a clever menu navigation on the scales (I agree that specialist knowledge is required), you could put all the fruit/vegetables in the shopping basket and walk to the scales at the end without having to memorize the numbers. I shop in the Migros Aare region, as far as I know a region that is really good at digital issues😃. Best regards, Stefan

At the checkouts of Lidl and Aldi there are symbols of the corresponding articles (as they are weighed at the checkout first). And if something is still organic or similar, then the corresponding logo is next to the symbol. For example, if there is a banana picture and the organic logo, the Max Havelaar logo, the Demeter logo etc. next to it. And instead of Lidl and Aldi, where the items are only weighed at the checkout, Migros has these symbols at the scales. It would simply need correspondingly larger screens because otherwise some would have to work with a magnifying glass and then there would be complaints again 😃

" - = true - but the numbers should only be placeholders -- " ... you could pack all the fruit/vegetables in the shopping basket and then walk to the scales without having to remember the numbers" = I am convinced: packing and then weighing all 7 items would mean: Set up the scales in a central location, take a number (=when you get to it) or wait endlessly in a queue with the trolley and in the end they no longer know what's in the bag at all -- the logical thing is: fill - weigh - enter memorized number - barcode on it, then next item perhaps in a different row and different scales... In any case, it's more likely to be a defective scale than a used scale....
