This has nothing to do with "nature". While crushed onions are on offer, carrots that no longer look so fresh are sorted out in the basket next door. The brown parts of the fennels are also regularly cut off. It's a pain when I buy onions and see at home that they are inedible,
Hello Loxiran, we are currently in the transition from the old harvest (import) to the new harvest (Switzerland). The skin firmness of the new harvest still needs some time and the shelf life is, as always at the start of the season, shorter and more sensitive. The onions form a firmer skin in 3-4 weeks. That's why they may not look as attractive yet. I will gladly take your advice on board. Kind regards, Susi

Hello Loxiran, thank you for your contribution. The onions are cleaned as thoroughly as possible after harvesting without damaging the protective skin. As the produce grows in the soil, it is quite possible that some soil residue will remain on the skin. However, this is usually removed before consumption. With regard to listeriosis, the FOPH generally recommends that people at risk avoid raw food. I hope these lines are helpful for you. Best regards, Tabea

Well, I've started buying the onions in the Coop. They are better presented there and the really bad ones encrusted with soil have already been sorted out. The onions at Migros still look terrible. Some of them are also damaged 😳
