Ruined organic range

Ruiniertes Bio Sortiment

For months now, the organic selection—especially dairy products—has been gradually scaled back until there’s hardly anything left. This is particularly true at smaller stores, which have recently started organizing their product ranges based on floor space, regardless of local customer needs.
All grated cheese, cheesecake mix, sliced Gruyère, etc., etc.: everything is gone.
The latest casualty is organic skyr (plain and mocha), which has been removed from the shelves at Migros everywhere.

Alnatura is no longer available (and hardly any additional Alnatura products have appeared in Migros since the closure), and the purge is taking place across many product categories (try finding organic oven fries or croquettes in smaller stores). Instead, there are cheap private labels and a fixation on rock-bottom prices. There’s no trace left of Migros’ sustainability goals from the 2010s.

The process is transparent—high margins on organic products are dragging down sales figures, so the product range is being thinned out under the guise of “customer needs.”

Instead of my Migros store at Zürich Rigiplatz, which I rely on, I now urgently wish for a Coop of the same size with a comparatively much better organic selection.
