I am delighted that the bear paws are now palm oil-free in the stores and I hope that all palm oil-free products are clearly labeled as such. this will make it easier to shop

Instead, the product contains hydrogenated rapeseed oil, which is very harmful to health. In some countries, hydrogenated fats (=trans fats) are limited, in Canada they are even banned completely, and not without reason. Palm oil would even be the healthier alternative.

If it weren't for the little word if...
Unfortunately, the cultivation of oil palms is repeatedly and still associated with human rights violations and social grievances on the plantations or land conflicts. Deforestation and the destruction of valuable natural habitats have led to a decline in biodiversity. Endangered species such as orangutans, gibbons and tigers are also affected. Pesticides pollute people and nature, and large amounts of CO2 are released through deforestation and the draining of peat soils.
By the way:
Around 75 percent of the palm oil produced worldwide is used directly or indirectly as food, i.e. also in processed products such as margarines and chocolate spreads, sausages and baked goods. It is also used in animal feed production and ends up in the troughs of poultry, pigs and cattle. A considerable amount is used for candles and it is used to decolorize waste paper, to produce pesticides or so-called liquids for e-cigarettes, plastics, paints and varnishes. Palm kernel oil can be found in industrial applications, in the cleaning and cosmetics industry in surfactants, emulsifiers, emulsions or glycerine.
So, it's time for an alternative!

That is definitely an argument. Of course, palm oil cultivation is a serious problem, but at the same time there are numerous other issues that need equally urgent attention. Climate change as a whole, plastic pollution of the oceans, the massive loss of soil due to industrial agriculture and the global water crisis are just a few examples. We must not lose sight of the big picture. And this is also about our health.
We need to do away with palm oil and trans fats, process vegetable oils without hydrogenation or at least opt for healthier alternatives such as butter in Switzerland.

For more butter you need more cows. More cows, more land - more output...
Palm oil that is correctly and fairly traded and properly cultivated is probably the best option. Because it is very economical and has a fairly neutral taste

Ruminating is another matter in itself...
Cattle produce the greenhouse gas methane (CH 4 ), which is 21 times more harmful to the climate than the carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) emitted by cars. Methane is one of the main causes of the greenhouse effect. WWF (World Wildlife Fund) compares the 300 g CH4/day/cow with the CO2 emissions of a car (130 g CO2 /km), which are perceived by the public as particularly harmful to the climate. Taking into account the 21 times greater climate impact of methane, the WWF makes the following calculation: 300 g CH4/day/cow corresponds to 6,900 CO2/day/cow. If you divide this value by the CO2 emissions of a car per kilometer, the greenhouse emissions of a cow correspond to a car mileage of over 50 km/day or almost 20,000 km/year.
Well, there is still much (improvement) to be done! It is also questionable why we use foreign oils instead of using and paying for our own, then this palm oil would not have to be flown in by plane. There is plenty more that is transported by airplane...but the most important thing, I personally think, is that NO damage (animals & nature) is left behind and poorer people are exploited, only for their own profit, according to the motto: after me the meaning flies! 🤨 A NO GO!!!
