In Migros, barley flakes with a high beta-glucan content (beta-barley) are missing from the (muesli) cereals on offer or it is not clear that the product contains a particularly high amount of beta-glucan or it is negated by the high sugar content in flakes or muesli mixes. However, they are an important food for people with type 2 diabetes and people with high cholesterol levels because the beta-glucan helps to regulate blood sugar and helps with fat metabolism in the body. This barley is grown in Switzerland and even Lidl manages to sell this beta-barley (Vita-Glucan flakes and muesli) from Zwicky in Thurgau!
