Highest contamination with resistant germs in Switzerland in Europe.
Europaweit stärkste Verseuchung mit resistenten Keimen in der Schweiz.
Switzerland is the European champion when it comes to administering antibiotics in cowsheds. Nowhere else on the continent is so much injected. This is even permitted on organic farms. Examples: Three times more antibiotics are administered than in Austria and 90 (ninety!) times more than in Norway. 80 million liters of milk per year (2020) cannot be sold because of antibiotic residues. This goes to calves or ends up in manure and promotes resistant germs. The milk will then be fairly germ-free. But the germs end up on vegetables and lettuce with the manure. The risk of this is still being investigated in Switzerland. In Germany, which sprays less, the contamination of lettuce and vegetables with resistant germs has been classified as a cause for concern. SVP National Councillor Martin Haab, a farmer with high-performance cows, defends this practice and sees no problem with it. (Source: K-Tipp 08/2022) So what else can you buy in Migros without running the risk of picking up resistant germs that can no longer be treated with antibiotics? Certainly not conventional dairy products, salads and vegetables. What I would like to know above all: How bad is the contamination in supposedly organic salad and vegetable products?
