Zaun coffees are decaffeinated using the DCM (dichloromethane) process. We understand your concerns about the carcinogenic effects of dichloromethane. We would therefore like to provide you with further information.
DCM is suspected of being carcinogenic. It is not classified as acutely toxic.
The process of decaffeinating coffee beans using DCM is carried out by a company in Germany. We visited the production facility ourselves and were convinced that the process is carried out in accordance with current environmental and occupational safety regulations. After decaffeination, the DCM is removed from the beans, recovered and cleaned. The beans are tested for caffeine content and DCM residue. The limit value is less than 2 mg / kg. This value is set so that no expected side effects occur. In addition, a safety factor is included in each case, which should also cover high consumption.

Hello Yolibolli, thank you for your feedback. The CO2 process is used for our coffee capsules. In this method, coffee beans pre-treated with steam are flushed with CO2 at a pressure of 73 to 300 bar. This dissolves the caffeine in the liquid phase. The carbon dioxide is allowed to evaporate, leaving the pure caffeine behind. The CO2 is then compressed again, condensed and reused.
