Hello Schlommel, by law we are obliged to clearly separate organic products from conventionally produced items at all times. Just labeling the display is not enough. That's why Migros deliberately sells most of its organic range in packaged form. If we were to package the conventionally produced products instead of the organic items, this would require a lot more material. The conventional range in the fruit and vegetable department is still larger due to the purchasing decisions of our customers. Migros is making great efforts to optimize its packaging and reduce packaging material. The first priority is always to protect the product sufficiently. Avoiding minimal food waste is a top priority. 45% of food waste is generated in households. For example, an unpackaged cucumber can no longer be sold after a few days - but 1.5 grams of packaging will keep it fresh for two weeks. You can find more information here. The use of recycled material is promising: many trays used to protect berries and other sensitive products in the fruit and vegetable department now contain up to 80% recycled PET. This saves on new material. We also promote the use of reusable bags. This is why Migros was the first Swiss retailer to offer reusable veggie bags in the fruit and vegetable department. The reusable bags are very popular. Many customers had been waiting for an alternative to plastic bags for some time. Best regards, Mia
