I find it strange that there are so many types of bananas - I especially don't understand how they differ from each other. The environmental balance of bananas is certainly never really great, and I would like to choose the most sustainable and socially responsible fruit. Is it Demeter, Max Havelaar or WWF? Why don't you introduce a logistically simpler system, with A) bananas that are optimal in every respect, and B) a budget version?
There are 3 bananas: Organic WWF Budget. Organic/Max Havelaar = organic bananas with Fairtrade certification WWF Bananas = WWF projects for more responsible banana cultivation M-Budget = the cheapest bananas in terms of price I don't think anything here is poorly communicated or overly complex. There is a variety for every group. People on a tight budget. People who like to buy organic. People who want sustainable bananas but don't have to be organic. Almost all retailers now have 3 bananas.
Hello Simon3047, thank you for your question. We would be happy to go into more detail about the different products. With organic Max Havelaar bananas, it is important to know that they are grown entirely without synthetic chemical fertilizers or pesticides. The farmers use organic solid and liquid fertilizers, as well as aids against diseases or insects that are permitted in organic farming. The use of such additives can be reduced to a minimum, as the entire cultivation concept of organic farming is based on balanced management. With the bananas from the WWF model project, Migros offers its customers bananas in its standard range that are grown in a more environmentally and socially responsible way. In contrast to the Bio Max Havelaar banana, the WWF banana is not grown according to organic guidelines. However, customers receive more for the same price, as various additional services are included in the sustainability section. With the M-Budget banana, we have completed the range and offer an affordable alternative to the high-quality bananas. It is a so-called "no name" product. There are no brand names or additional labels that influence the price. We always strive to offer our products as sustainably as possible (transport, logistics, packaging). For example, we transport conventional bananas from their country of origin to Switzerland in unique Migros-specific reusable packaging, which significantly reduces the environmental impact. Migros is the only retailer in the world to use this packaging instead of the familiar conventional banana cartons. We can use these reusable plastic pallets several times. In this way, we save over one million banana boxes every year.hello Simon3047, thank you for your question. We would be happy to go into more detail about the different products. It would be interesting to know where this no-name product comes from. I have found that the budget bananas are the tastiest, they taste like they come from the plant in Nigeria, unbelievable! Maybe they come from there 😀 Unfortunately, they are always stuck together in large quantities although they are sold at a price per kilo and therefore have to be weighed. The quantities on offer are almost always too big for me.

Hello curley, the M-Budget bananas come from Panama and sometimes, but more as an exception, from Ecuador. Kind regards, Susi
