I am shocked that individual customers abuse the Migros recycling system to such an extent. Today I observed this in a large Migros store.
It's hard to believe that Tetrapaks and egg cartons were mistakenly lying amongst the pet bottles and plastic bottles. The worst were packages of chicken cutlets with the juice still dripping out of them.
You have to bear in mind that chicken juice can contain antibiotic-resistant germs, salmonella or campylobacter.
So these waste dumps are lying around openly inside Migros supermarkets!
Just because individual consumers are not able to recycle as they should.
The store manager was there by chance. He told me that he didn't have a solution to stop this abuse either. The recycling bins even stink a lot.
I hope that Migros will soon find a solution to better
I would very much welcome it if Migros could provide more education so that individual customers finally realize that they must not misuse the recycling baskets as a place to dispose of chicken packaging.
It is an irresponsible imposition that individual customers carry their dirty chicken packaging back to Migros and thus bring germs into Migros!

I completely agree, but this is partly a consequence of the fact that PET plastic packaging also bears the PET logo, sothat some people believe that packaging can be put in the PET collection.
In addition, unfortunately there are now bin bag charges almost everywhere in Switzerland. I think this is total nonsense, because on the one hand it encourages 'wild' disposal (as here), and on the other hand it leads to people stuffing their garbage bags so full that they tear easily, especially if there is something heavy or sharp-edged in them or if animals get into them (I've seen this several times on the street - not a pretty sight).
In France, for example, there is a better solution, where there is a container in front of the house, which is paid for via service charges and everyone can throw their garbage in. With the nice side effect that glass, PET, paper, aluminum, etc. also have to be collected directly in front of the house, and not in a shopping center or even a 'disposal yard' miles away - because then people would just throw everything unseparated into the trash.
Anyway, perhaps clearer signage would help, à la
PET bottles
no PE and plastic bottles, no PET packaging, no waste
Migros has already written to its collection containers, but unfortunately this doesn't help much...

That's a scary thing you describe!
Unfortunately, I can't quite understand it, because in the stores where I dispose of waste from time to time, I push the PET drinks bottles outside through a square hole covered with slats into the PET press and the jam jars and the like into a round hole, also covered with slats, in one of the closed containers.
Inside, waste is disposed of on the recycling wall, where the waste is pushed through slots and holes of various shapes and sizes.
So I've never seen an open container and peering through a hole would be too stupid for me.
I suspect that you are an insider and have an insight behind the scenes that I lack!

In the Migros where I observed this, there are two large open collection bins, no wall with holes. So you can see what gets thrown in. I asked the store manager if a wall with holes would produce a better result? He told me that they had already tried this but that waste would also be thrown in with the hole system.

Otherwise you just abolish the PET disposal point and that's it!

I understand your annoyance Loxiran. I would find that disgusting too. But as I said - as long as consumers don't change, Migros can't do anything about it. The only solution is as above or PET acceptance by the staff - but that would not only be an exaggeration but also an indictment of the company - not Migros!
Such indecent people are simply resistant to education on the part of Migros, e.g. through posters.
My criticism is aimed exclusively at the users of the recycling center. It's not Migros' fault. But someone, unfortunately only Migros is left here, unfortunately has to educate the "v....... S....." educate? But I agree with you, how is this supposed to work?
I agree with Istanbul: My regular Migros also has a wall with holes. I've never seen any kitchen waste there (I'm curious and have looked inside before). However, there are always cans and glass in front of the wall. The tin and glass collection point is in front of the Coop.
Sad but true: video camera at the bins in the Migros in question and first educate people and then fine them if they do it again.

Hello everyone
We have actually been struggling with the problem described by@Loxiranschilderfor a while now. We try to show what belongs where and prevent confusion by using collection walls with corresponding openings.
However, such collection walls are not yet available in all Migros stores, or it is not possible to install them everywhere due to space constraints.
As you can see, we are aware of the issue and we are trying to do our bit to find a solution and will certainly continue to do so.

I was in the Migros in question again today.

Here you can see what is thrown in, especially in the basket on the right, that doesn't belong there.
Meat packaging, unfortunately mostly unwashed and with meat or poultry leftovers:

And countless Tetrapacks.
In that sense, it's a shame that there are so many unhygienic people. ?
