Respeggt eggs too expensive?

Respeggt-Eier zu teuer?

Why do Migros' free-range eggs cost 56 Rp/piece when the equivalent free-range egg costs 49 Rp/piece? The manual sexing of the chicks takes about 2 seconds per chick, i.e. 4 seconds per surviving laying hen, which will then lay about 300 eggs. The sex costs per hen are therefore about 6.7 Rp, if the sex hour for staff + NK etc. is 60 CHF. If, on the other hand, the eggs are mechanically sorted out a few days after fertilization, the costs for the remaining hatching (about 11 days, which would already reduce the hatching costs for Respeggt eggs by 25 %), hatching and keeping the chicks until sexing (50 % cheaper) are halved. In addition, it can be assumed that the Respeggt machine works more cheaply than the manual sexers. This means that the sexing costs per egg in the store are perhaps 0.1 centimes. If Migros cared about animal welfare and not business, it could offer Respeggt eggs 0.1 centimes cheaper. They talk about animal welfare and the ethical needs of customers and abuse their ignorance to take 7 centimes per egg out of their pockets. I think the Respeggt initiative with the sorting of eggs makes a lot of sense and should quickly become standard. However, this would mean adjusting the price and not charging more for a cheaper product! I think the Respeggt alternative with the two breeds of hens is rather superfluous because (1) it is totally uneconomical and unecological to rear hens and cockerels at half capacity. And (2) the male chicks don't care whether they are gassed immediately after hatching or end up in the frying pan 30 days later.
