Dear Migros Over a year ago, I made the suggestion here on Migipedia that all M-Restaurants should, by definition, offer 1 vegetarian menu a day. Unfortunately, apart from a nice reply, nothing happened. And my post even disappeared at some point. Nevertheless, there is still a similar proposal from 2010, and Coop is now advertising veggie menus! (Quote) "Fancy a varied veggie menu? From now on, all Coop restaurants will offer a daily changing veggie menu. The varied recipes were developed in collaboration with Betty Bossi. All veggie menus are complete main meals and offer vegan delicacies as well as vegetarian options. The dishes are freshly prepared daily on site in the Coop restaurant and are available for just CHF 11.95." There is a daily vegetarian offer in every canteen, now also at Coop. It seems to me that Migros has missed a trend here! Or is there still hope? Greetings Christof

As an occasional meat eater with vegetarian relatives, I am also in favor of this. I just think the menu at the Coop is too expensive. Fortunately, I can go to the nearby retirement home at lunchtime. They have a salad bar and a hot buffet with various vegetarian side dishes. I can fill my microwave bowl there and only pay CHF 9 without meat.
I think that's great and cheap.

Migros will have vegetarian options in its restaurants from the beginning of 2016.
Most Migros restaurants already offer a meat-free dish - and from next year this offer will be specifically adapted.

Thank you for your reply. The sentence "Migros will have vegetarian options in its restaurants from the beginning of 2016" seems a little cautious to me. In fact, most M restaurants already offer a meat-free dish - occasionally! But I was talking about veggie menus as a standard offer, changing daily. Just like at Coop. Or like the vast majority of canteens.

So far, the proportion of meat has been reduced by five to ten percent. The menu sometimes includes a piece of lamb kidney from New Zealand, albeit transported by ship. The popular Schnipo also remains on the menu. "We easily sell 450 portions of each," says head chef Klaus Reiter (50). The chefs had to attend further training with Vegi-Pope Rolf Hiltl. "But they did a great job," says Lutz. Reiter does not feel restricted by the strict rules, even if herbs from Israel or Asia are taboo. "A creative chef finds local substitutes."
An approach that would suit Migros perfectly.

Why does vegan always have to be labeled as vegan? If you go through the menu at any Migros restaurant because you're hungry, you'll always find dishes that fit the "gluscht" or the "ärztliche Verordnung" or the "ethical conviction". They are simply not always explicitly labeled. So anyone who claims that you can't eat veggie food at Migros hasn't been there and so it wouldn't do any good to specifically label the vegetarian food on offer, which is there in abundance, as such. I like it the way it is now.

You are most probably not a vegetarian. How boring do meat eaters imagine a vegetarian diet to be? Vegetarians have somewhat higher expectations than "on Monday = salad buffet, on Tuesday = vegetable buffet, on Wednesday = menu 1 (please omit meat), on Thursday = salad buffet, on Friday = vegetable buffet, ...". I've already spoken to local Migros chefs and they've actually taken the serious view that there is a salad and vegetable buffet every day. What's the problem... I could just as easily eat the infamous vegetable plate in the local pub every day. The SV has sent its chefs to Rolf HiItl for a workshop. Which had noticeable consequences in my favorite canteen.

Nothing against the Quartierbeiz, it has its function. You have your favorite SV canteen, where the chefs cook according to Hiltl. I don't eat at the Migros restaurant every day either and I don't try to force the restaurant to offer something, I choose the restaurant myself. I ask myself, also considering the frequency in a restaurant.

I definitely don't have enough choice for veggies in the Migros restaurant. There is a salad and vegetable buffet - yes, but that's about it. What's more, the salads are often rotten when lunchtime is over (I'd like to mention the restaurant in Bern's Westside in particular, where I've often found lamp salad and sour vegetable salads in the evening). If a buffet, then fresh...
In any case, more veggie menus would also be welcome and please don't pull out the pasta drawer: Spaghetti with tomato sauce - yuheee :-(

The Saturday before yesterday was the first time I had been to a Migros restaurant (in Weinfelden) for a long time. Unfortunately, there was no sign of a vegan menu! There were several meat menus and a so-called "hot buffet". This buffet consisted of a few vegetables, a few side dishes and - two or three types of MEAT!
I almost couldn't believe it! That this is still possible in 2019? Unbelievable! Dear Migros Restaurant Weinfelden, you're stuck somewhere in the last century!

I'm not a vegetarian, just a semi-vegetarian. I only eat animals that have eaten a vegetarian diet. No seriously....
There is already enough choice, even in the hot buffet there are not only vegetables. Mushroom risotto, potato gratin, leek vegetables (with sauce), Thai cuisine and soups often have NO meat.
So when it comes to buffets, we don't see eye to eye. If you're looking for ready-made menus, mushroom toast or something like that would be delicious.
I always go to the buffets, scoop up what I like, at the end I'm at my seat and realize that I'm eating vegetarian without realizing it. Try that. Don't frantically look for meat,
Scoop up what you like, you'll be surprised that you won't find any meat on your plate. As a meat eater, I am always amazed.

Hello crimle, we have discussed your request with Migros Restaurant Weinfelden. They offer a vegetarian menu from Friday to Monday. On Saturdays, each Migros restaurant offers a buffet and menus which experience has shown to appeal most to the local target group. It is therefore possible that the variety of vegetarian options may vary. Migros Weinfelden is constantly reviewing its range and taking feedback like yours into account.
