As an English scholar, I find the request to find a "funky flavor" for an ice cream not exactly successful, if not repulsive. Before using "casual" words, one should at least know their meaning.
"Funky" can either refer to highly rhythmic music or describe unusual - but fashionable - clothing. The term "funky" is usually associated with a strong, bad smell, such as worn socks or the scent of a not-so-clean man's wardrobe. Hardly something that should be associated with ice cream. "Funky" is rarely used for food unless it smells strong and is rotting.
Although "Mary Jane" is a name, it has two other meanings that resonate in this case:
1. flat children's shoe with a round front and a strap across the top of the foot.
2. slang (and very common!) for marijuana.
The ladies and gentlemen in the advertising department should perhaps bear this in mind.
