Hello everyone. I would like to try kimchi, but I'm a bit apprehensive about whether I would like the taste. Unfortunately, it's always larger packs that you can buy, I'm against food waste.... who has experience with it and can give me an impression of the taste?

Hmm, not so easy to describe. In terms of taste and effect on the body, sauerkraut is probably a good comparison. However, kimchi does not have the very distinctive smell of sauerkraut and is somewhat milder in taste. Unfortunately, it has the same flatulent effect if you eat a little more of it.

Thanks for the info, I've also heard about sauerkraut, I thought kimchi was spicy. Is it mainly eaten warm? Is the seasoning recognizably Asian?

This varies depending on the method of preparation - the kimchi from Chop Stick, for example, is with chili, and then of course very spicy. The kimchi from Anna's Best also has chili flakes in it, but is a little less spicy. Kimchi can be eaten hot or cold. Personally, I like it better warm. However, you shouldn't cook it, just heat it slightly. Then it's ready to eat, just as you buy it, and you don't have to add anything else. The kimchi from Chop Stick doesn't taste quite so Asian, whereas the new one from Anna's Best does - probably because of the miso it contains.
