I wanted to ask why all products are not clearly labeled as gluten-free, lactose-free, vegan, etc.?

For example, organic rice drink almonds only says 'without milk', but according to the ingredients it should be gluten-free, so why can't it be labeled as such? That would simply make it a lot easier for us coeliacs...otherwise there is always the uncertainty as to whether there is perhaps a contamination because it is not clearly declared as gluten-free. As I myself have a massive reaction to traces of gluten, it would be great if all products (even those that are not from aha!) were labeled accordingly...isn't that feasible?

It is not so easy to label all naturally gluten-free products or products that are gluten-free according to the recipe as such. The Food Regulation defines the term gluten-free as follows:

"Foods for people with gluten intolerance are foods that have been specially produced, prepared and processed to meet the specific dietary requirements of people with gluten intolerance. They can be labeled "gluten-free" if their gluten content is 20 mg/kg or less."

This means that many products may not be labeled as "gluten-free" by law (for example, orange juice may not be labeled as "gluten-free"). Furthermore, gluten-free labeling must also be guaranteed.

As it is clear from the list of ingredients if a product contains gluten-containing ingredients, special labeling is not absolutely necessary (information on this can be found on our fact sheet: http://aha.migros.ch/aha/de/allergien-und-intoleranzen.html.). We therefore limit ourselves to gluten-free specialty products with the aha! seal of approval.
