I try to buy organic fruit and vegetables. Unfortunately, this involves a lot of plastic on the one hand and a lot of quantity on the other. Until recently, for example, I was able to buy organic fennel individually and unpackaged, but now my local store only sells it in foil packs of two. However, you can buy conventional fennel individually. The situation is similar with celery stalks. Organic apples and kiwis are only available in packs of six. I think the large quantities and the packaging waste are a shame and avoidable.

Simply labeling the display is not enough. That's why Migros deliberately sells most of its organic range in packaged form. However, we already sell many organic products unpackaged. We are also constantly looking at which products it makes sense to use stickers instead of film packaging. However, the focus is still on protecting the product. 45% of food waste is generated in households. For example, an unpackaged cucumber can no longer be sold after a few days - but 1.5 grams of packaging will keep it fresh for two weeks. Packaging also makes sense from a hygiene point of view - some customers check the goods by touching them and then put them back. We are also aware that we cannot meet all customer wishes and needs with organic packaging sizes. Requirements in terms of quantity vary greatly depending on the customer group - a single-person household naturally has different ideas about the optimum packaging size than a large family or shared flat.
