Hello Migros, is it true that you still demand white veal from the animal fatteners? It simply can't be the case that this age-old braid has survived! Animal welfare should, oh what, MUST become much more important here.

Hello bluekoala, no, we do not require this in any way, nor do we wish to. On the contrary, due to a revision of the Animal Welfare Ordinance, all calves in Switzerland must be given roughage as part of their feed ration from September 2013. This generally leads to a pink to reddish coloration of the calf meat. Migros took the initiative in 2004 and reoriented calf fattening with its own program. We switched from pure milk or water-milk powder fattening to calf fattening with 'whole milk and hay' (hay is a roughage). We were the first major supplier of veal in Switzerland to do so. One of the consequences of the orientation in feeding for TerraSuisse was that the meat color changed from light to pink / reddish. We very much welcome this, as we know that the calves have become healthier as a result of the guidelines. Migros has been committed to animal-friendly fattening for years and sells a large proportion of its veal under the TerraSuisse label, from natural and animal-friendly Swiss agriculture in accordance with IP-SUISSE guidelines. Kind regards, Sina

Dear Sina, thank you for your answer. I understood from a calf fattener on the Nature website that white meat is still required. Coop accepts red meat, Migros light red meat. I will watch the two programs about cows in Switzerland again, as I am very interested in what is being done to make the animals feel better and to move away from the high performance cow back towards a normal animal with all the trimmings :)bluekoala
