Grapes

Weinbeeren

I've been missing "normal" grapes (the really dark ones) for a while now. I can only find raisins; they have a different taste and are nowhere near as good as the "real" grapes. Why are there no more grapes?

Hello @Annamostindia

Although raisins are raisins, they are rightly considered the queen of dried grapes. They come from the Sultana vine, which produces particularly large berries. Sultana grapes are also characterized by their thin skin and lack of seeds.
The outdated name "Smyrna raisin" reveals where raisins originally come from: Smyrna, now Turkish, used to be in Greece. Today, raisins still come mainly from Greece and Turkey.

Thank you for your message here. I will find out immediately why we don't currently stock grapes and if they will be back on our shelves.

Kind regards

Good day
In the meantime, have you found out why there are no more grapes?

Hello@Annamostindia

The request has been somewhat delayed, please excuse the long wait.

Unfortunately, the demand for grapes has been declining for some time. For this reason, we have finally decided to remove the grapes from our range. As an alternative, we have various raisins in our range - but of course you're right: they don't taste exactly the same. This is due to the different drying process. Raisins are also slightly thicker and contain more moisture than raisins. Perhaps you will still find a suitable substitute for you in one of the following products?
