Why are the 11er coffee books only sold for cash ?

Warum werden die 11er Kaffeebüchlein nur gegen bar abgegeben ?.

I wanted to buy a booklet of 11 today - but they only sell them for cash and I didn't have any in my wallet. So I just paid the CHF 3.30 with my credit card... I don't quite understand this situation.
Actually, I would prefer a solution like last year anyway, instead of this slip of paper economy... a solution where everyone is on an equal footing in terms of price

Hello Tessin

Thank you for the request. I discussed this briefly with my colleague, but as the restaurants are organized regionally, I'll have to ask the cooperative. In your case, that would be in eastern Switzerland, is that correct?

Best regards

@Dominik_Migros: Thanks Dominik, yes it is eastern Switzerland and I can also imagine why this is done... ;-) - the coffee booklets are part of the cash register inventory.

These slips of paper are not convenient anyway - especially if they are not used daily - and I would have to take out my Cumulus credit card (because of the barcode) anyway, and because of the long validity period of the vouchers it is not a reward for "frequent drinkers" either.

So you could continue to sell these vouchers as before = 33 CHF for 11 coffees = 3 CHF per coffee, or as an alternative for the "voucher avoiders" : you pay the full price, get the 30 Rp discount back in the form of an additional 30 Cumulus points... with the consideration : Cumulus customers = Migros customers... without Cumulus card = 3.30 net ! ... or is this unfair competition ?... ;-)

Hello Tessin

The cooperative told me that this is indeed the case because it is part of the cash register. It is a "cash value exchange". Because of the Cumulus, you have to show it separately in all areas of Migros.

However, the cooperative now knows that you don't find this very convenient. No changes are planned at the moment.

Kind regards

Thank you@Dominik_Migrosforyour prompt response.
However, I can't resist a follow-up comment: If the cashier looks ahead and already enters the next customer's 2 coffees, for example, and the paying customer then takes out CHF 33 and says: I want a coffee booklet and then take 2 coupons from this booklet.... doesn't work because the cashier can't open the till to complete the payment process, because these booklets are in the locked till. Apparently this is a common phenomenon, because in some places they are found in the funniest hiding places... ;-) I just heard them say...
Correct, if the customer knows this, he makes clear hand signals in the direction of the cash register (over a customer), not to type in the coffee hastily because you want to buy the coffee booklets first.... even at the risk of being called a nervous weirdo by the previous customer.... ;-)
Sorry - I had to describe it somewhat pointedly to draw attention to the problem

Since the coffee booklets are part of the cash register, they can only be purchased in cash. But what if I use a Migros payment method? I'm thinking of the blue Cumulus vouchers or the Migros gift cards... Thank you very much for your answer.

I have long wondered why regular coffee drinkers, who are not necessarily fans of this paper-based economy from the century before last, are not given an adequate discount via the stamp cards, as was the case when Café Royal was first introduced.... mmh... The stamp card would really be the ideal "reward channel for regular coffee drinkers" in the Migros restaurant!

Hello @Mottasvizzera - you're just distracting. I gave up the digital version of a coffee discount a long time ago - even though I find these slips of paper extremely unappetizing when I have to watch people licking their fingers at the checkout to get just 1 slip of paper for the tear-off... But my question was whether Migros' own means of payment are equivalent to cash when buying these little books!

After 7 months, I am once again asking Migros the unanswered question: Can coffee booklets also be paid for with the "blue vouchers" (in paper form, of course, so that the cashier has something in her hands in the evening)? which I received last week with the Cumulus settlement?

Hello Polarstern90 The coffee booklets are not products from the range, so I cannot assure you that this possibility exists. Basically, I can only say that Cumulus vouchers cannot be used to purchase other means of payment (vouchers, gift cards, etc.). In this case, I recommend that you contact the store's customer service directly to clarify whether this is technically feasible. Best regards and have a nice day. Sofia

Thank you @Cumulus-Infoline for the prompt reply. I was in the Migros restaurant this afternoon - the blue vouchers are not accepted as payment, because the coffee booklets are not sold - but only exchanged: It is a barter trade coffee booklets for cash - at all levels... This has to do with the fact that they are part of the cash register stock, i.e. if there are no longer enough coffee booklets in the cash register, the staff also goes to the next higher cash register with e.g. CHF 350 and buys 10 of these coffee booklets.... You can say: ONLY CASH IS TRUE ... :-)
