I can hardly find a product that wasn't made in China. Even the wasabi, which is labeled "Japanese Wasabi" on the front, was made in China. What a cheek. I will no longer shop at Migros if this doesn't change.

Dear PiusBa
Thank you very much for your message. I can assure you that Migros is very keen to support regional agriculture and production - it's not for nothing that we have the "From the region - for the region" label.
When we switch to China for production, we check materials, working conditions and processes very closely and very regularly. In the case of the specific example of "Japanese wasabi", I would be happy to clarify for you why it is produced in China.
I hope I can give you an answer between the holidays, but please be patient if the clarifications take a little longer.
Best regards Tanja, Migipedia team

Hello PiusBa
I still owe you an answer about the "Japanese style" wasabi. Our product manager explained it to me as follows: The Saitaku wasabi is labeled "Japanese Style" on the front - this means that it was produced in the Japanese style.
We source our Japanese Saitaku brand range from a competent brand supplier who is responsible for this product range. In this respect, we have no influence over where the Saitaku brand sources its wasabi paste. Our alternative course of action would be to purchase the wasabi paste from another supplier under a different brand. However, we see no reason to do so, as this would disrupt the brand image and we are very satisfied with the quality on offer. Apart from its origin in China, the wasabi paste is in no way inferior to any other wasabi paste from Japan, either in terms of ingredients or taste.
I hope this explains why the wasabi is from China.
... and the baby bodysuits with the Swiss cross or the Edelweiss bodysuits? Made in China - the main thing is cheaper than cheap. It's just funny that a month after they came out, the items were super cheap at 1/2 or 1/4 price.
I find my own consumer behavior extremely questionable and will now turn more to products that are made in Switzerland.

I was shocked to discover that almost all baby clothes are made in china and it's still not cheap. What a pity

Hello Mamamina We strive to sell high quality products at an attractive price. Globalization is well advanced today, which has both positive and negative effects. Suppliers from Asia are playing an increasingly important role on the world market. Migros cannot escape this situation. For example, textiles, kitchen and decorative items are mainly sourced from abroad because competitive production in Switzerland and, in some cases, in Europe is no longer possible. We have also noticed that many consumers are currently ordering such items from Chinese online suppliers. For this reason, too, we see no reason why Migros should not source goods from China. Kind regards, Heidi
This is not only the case with Migros, but also with the competition. Producing in China is simply the cheapest, and as long as there are no other countries that can keep up with China's production prices or that are becoming China's competitors, nothing is likely to change any time soon... China has "specialized" in this and hardly anyone can avoid China anymore if they want to produce cheaply and earn a good margin on the goods...
