Warning About Park&Go

Warnung vor Park&Go

It sounds convenient to activate the automatic payment option… so we did.

In general, the system works relatively well. However, despite having a valid credit card on file, we were hit with an additional charge of **CHF 68.– (parking fee plus an additional fee/“fine”)**.

Mobility Hub’s explanation is as follows:

“Due to its specific architectural features, the parking lot at the Migros Shopping Center X is not designed for the Migros Park&Go system. This is clearly communicated in the terms of use and on-site signage. At this location, only fixed-price tickets are accepted as a payment option.”

I don’t see the problem so much in the fact that there may have been a corresponding notice on site. What matters to me is Migros’ own description: “Just drive in and drive out again after parking. The parking fee is automatically charged. And all of this without any additional fees.”

If my vehicle is correctly captured by a camera upon entry and exit and I have activated Park&Go, I, as a customer, assume that automatic billing will work. After all, this convenience is precisely the point of such a system.

Otherwise, the customer would have to check before every entry whether the specific parking space is actually suitable for Park&Go due to its “structural conditions” and, to do so, study the terms of use or the on-site signage.

This suddenly turns “simply driving in and out” into a system where the customer must assess for themselves whether the technical and contractual requirements are even met at that location—and risks a CHF 68 fine if they misinterpret the situation.

This raises the question for me as to whether Migros’ communication sufficiently clarifies how Park&Go actually works. If a location isn’t suitable for Park&Go, I believe this should be made so clearly evident that a user of the explicitly advertised automatic payment system isn’t confronted with such a charge only after the fact.

Given how things went for us, I therefore find Park&Go not only inconvenient but also unnecessarily risky for customers who rely on the automatic processing promised by Migros.
