Hello, what I can't understand at all is that Migros throws so much (actually still good food) into the garbage can every evening instead of simply giving it away to the needy or at least not writing the prices down until 30 minutes before closing time (e.g. for sweet pastries). There's so much food left over that nobody buys anymore... under the motto: better to throw it away than give it to customers for free. Sorry, zero understanding...
Yes, I've seen it with my own eyes and have already asked if I could take leftovers home. However, according to the food law in Switzerland, this is apparently not possible. A good friend of mine used to work at Migros and has seen it all with his own eyes. What is certain is that a lot of food is thrown away that could actually still be eaten. Of course, food also goes to food banks or perhaps old people's homes, etc. But far too much is still thrown away.

Migros has been investigating the relevant figures for Migros since the beginning of 2012. The figures clearly show that Migros' efforts to avoid wasting food are worthwhile: 98.6 percent of the food that Migros offers in its stores and restaurants is also sold or given away as food: at regular or reduced prices to customers and employees or free of charge to charitable organizations such as "Tischlein deck dich" or "Schweizer Tafeln"!
Only 1.4 percent of the food offered by Migros (Migros stores and restaurants) is not used as food:
1.3 percent is recycled
0.3% as animal feed
0.9% in fermentation (biogas)
0.1% as compost, and
0.1% ends up as waste in the waste incineration plant (KVA)
All food that we have to throw away means a loss for us on the one hand and costs on the other. That is why Migros tries to keep the value of food waste as low as possible.
