Just experienced it again...
I think the packaging for the "normal" straws (the white ones with the green, blue, red or yellow stripes) is terrible. You can only really get the straws out of the pack when there are almost none left. If you want to open the whole lid, you have to laboriously work your way through and suddenly the straws are everywhere... I think a revision, at least at the opening in the lid, would not be bad...
