The majority of Migros products have two dates on the packaging (sell by/use by...).
Do you look closely at these dates when shopping and have you often come across expired products? I am aware that the 1st date (for sale until ....) has no legal significance, except that this product may no longer be sold.
For 2 years now, I have always found products in the display in a store where this date had already expired during my weekly shopping. Some of the worse cases were meat and fish products where the use-by date had also expired.
The customer service person responsible for the region in question gave me an answer that I'd rather not quote (lots of warm air and the explanation that customers put expired products in the displays... which was probably written in a fit of missing the meaning of "customer").
Several conversations with the store manager in these two years brought no improvement.
Now I'm wondering whether this is a store problem (the bottom line is that their quality is simply inadequate) or whether it also exists in other stores or regions.

I also look at the date for chilled products (meat, yoghurts, cheese, patisserie, etc.), as these products are also "delicate" and don't keep for long, and if you do a weekly shop, these products have to "last" for a few days, depending on what they are?
In our store, all products are labeled with "for sale until...", which then expire on the corresponding day at 25% (morning/midday) and later at 50% (towards evening). The next day, all unsold products have disappeared from the shelves.
Of course it can happen in individual cases that something is also found in my store (happened once with Migros Ice Tea 1 liter), but then I immediately informed an employee.
He was very THANKFUL and cleared the product from the shelf immediately and if I had "only" seen it at home, then I would have brought it back and my store would also have apologized for it (as I know this store) and not looked for "excuses" and exchanged it for a new product.
Let's see if others with hopefully equally good branches get in touch......
I am convinced that if this happens as often as @neiaberaugeschiltert says, the problem clearly lies with the store. I hardly believe that customers take expired products from home and put them back on the shelves...
I have never discovered an expired product in a supermarket in my entire life. Not even in developing countries.
This rarely happens in my regular store in Zollikofen. However, if I see an expired product, I hand it to the staff. They are very grateful, because anyone can overlook something.

I always pay very close attention to the date so that I don't accidentally buy something that has expired.
Sometimes I don't know why the employees overlook this? Maybe they are just too stressed?
It's no better at Coop, where I also find expired products from time to time.
Whether at Coop or Migros, I have already found products that have been expired for 5 months, and this with both suppliers!
If I have to pay the full price, should it be better to indicate whether the product has expired or not? I don't think it's right if I have to buy "old" products at full price in the store. This is particularly annoying when it comes to milk or perishable products.

I've also had my problems with Coop and Coop Pronto. But the store manager finally took action (after an email to the top Coop boss) and today I can no longer complain.
But this one Migros branch that I visit (as it is the closest) is simply a disgrace and nobody seems to care. The only solution is probably an email to the top boss and to the canton's hygiene service (regarding expired meat).
The worst thing, however, is the arrogance and arrogance of the staff, who have never been able to apologize or say thank you.
Well, there are plenty of ways to share your experiences on the Internet these days :-)

Just today, I found Demeter organic milk in Alnatura/Migros, which expired yesterday. There were about 4 of them. I was able to report it to the store so that the expired products could be cleared away. So nothing more needs to be done. Just wanted to document this to show that unfortunately this happens from time to time.
