Hello,
many vegetarians become vegans when they realize that the reasons which led them to become vegetarians (in general: animal exploitation, suffering, ecology, health, etc.) apply just as much to the dairy and egg industries, as to the meat products industry which they have renounced until now.
Despite the efforts of major groups like Migros and a general trend towards vegetarianism, which is to be congratulated, many products labelled "vegetarian" are not actually vegan. Of course, vegetarian is not vegan.
As a vegan, I regret that a large proportion of vegetarian products (Migros) are unpalatable to me, because they contain eggs or dairy products.
Of course, the vegetarian consumer has to be seduced by "gourmet" products such as Quorn's cordon bleu, which contains cheese. I'm not talking about this type of product, which is an "assemblage".
A large part of Migros' vegetarian range is made up of "whole" products (a treacherous term given their mixed composition), but by this I mean that a quorn nugget is a quorn nugget, I don't expect to find cheese or eggs in it. Yet some of these vegetarian products contain eggs and dairy products.
What's the point? On the FAQ, Migros explains that egg whites contain a lot of highly assimilable protein and no cholesterol. Good point.
From my point of view, and I'd be happy for others to give their opinion here, the typical vegetarian, who therefore still consumes eggs and dairy products, doesn't really care about having a supplement of egg proteins in addition to those of his Quorn steak.
And if that's a problem, a vegetarian knows how to prepare protein combinations like rice and lentils.
Vegans, on the other hand, will simply skip the product. Too bad, isn't it?
So..... all that (sorry, it's long) to tell you that these vegetarian products are just a step away from being quite interesting vegan products.
Why deprive yourself of this type of customer, small in number, but demanding?
And frankly, who's going to mind a bit less egg white?
If so, why not create a vegan range?
This is not a rant, but an encouragement!
