For some time now, Migros has been labeling its range of products suitable for a vegetarian or vegan diet with the V-Label of the European Vegetarian Union (EVU). The V-Label guarantees that all ingredients as well as all additives (E-numbers) and processing aids used are vegetarian or vegan. The label enables the consumer to recognize suitable products at a glance.
The V-Label is awarded in two different categories:
- vegetarian (plant-based foods with dairy and/or egg-based ingredients)
- vegan (purely plant-based products)
It is also possible to search for vegan and vegetarian products on the Migros product portal https://produkte.migros.ch/sortiment/supermarkt by using the filter function for "Labels" and clicking on "V-vegan" or "V-vegetarian".
A V-label makes little sense on simple plant-based staple foods such as rice, oatmeal, etc. However, it is not necessarily obvious or known whether a product is vegan if it consists of various ingredients and has undergone processing. We therefore generally apply the V-label to products with a complex composition.
