Nonsensical requirements for producers and food waste
Unsinnige Anforderungen an Produzenten und Food-Waste
Is there such a thing at Migros? The example comes from Germany.

Hello @Rhytmus
No, there is no such thing at Migros. I asked our product managers, here is the answer:
"Migros works very closely with its suppliers, especially in Switzerland. Annual cultivation plans are made. Changes of this kind are communicated in this planning so that the supplier has enough lead time to purchase a machine, for example, or at least not produce the goods."
Kind regards, Nicole

According to the vegetable producers, this apparently does exist. I am really shocked. https://www.infosperber.ch/wirtschaft/dutzende-tonnen-von-schweizer-gemuese-vernichtet/?fbclid=IwAR2Ix8_OwLwKROP4edB_BbBU-jAknCb0l1Pan-tAvh3vTh3884G2e4VVdSU

This would be a very good solution, but I think the price of 2.49 is too high for Switzerland. https://krummgluecklich.de/?utm_source=maggi&utm_medium=teaser&utm_campaign=productpage&utm_term=basket/

@Migros what do you think? There simply must be no such thing! The eternally identical carrots in the rack are just one example. Same size, same shape, absolutely boring. Customers would also buy the smaller or larger carrots if they were offered WÜRDEN☝️
Totally agree, the desire to buy imperfect vegetables is on the rise. But it was already the case in 2019 https://www.infosperber.ch/wirtschaft/landwirtschaft/schweiz-internet-user-und-kleinhandel-retten-landwirt-vor-ruin/ and remains so to this day that the retail trade is not participating. Every year I get around 20 kg of strawberries as a gift from the farmer - too ripe to sell to retailers. This means: perfectly ripe in the sun, dark red to the center of the berry, sweet so that no sugar is needed and aromatic so that they smell like sweet strawberries from the trunk to the steering wheel. But they don't keep for two weeks in the cold store where they are sent half-sour and half-ripe. So I hope that one day someone will take a step away from "only perfect is good" and yes, Migros will praise itself with some small campaigns, but the big picture looks different.
I would buy such imperfect vegetables and fruit straight away, it really doesn't matter to me whether, for example, the strawberries in a bowl or apples all look the same, whether the potatoes are big/small/shapeless etc., I eat such things or process them further, I don't have to put them up as decoration and admire them, I really don't give a damn whether all fruit/vegetables conform to the norm or look perfect. It doesn't matter in my stomach anyway ;-) Such food waste is simply catastrophic, especially when you consider how many people in this world don't have enough to eat (and Corona hasn't made it any better, but worse). It's food waste anyway, and you could support the farmers with such misshapen vegetables and imperfect fruit. I am convinced that there are definitely a lot of people who would buy such products; you just have to offer them, advertise them a little and adjust the price accordingly, then the market will sort it out. But if the retail trade doesn't want to join in, then we small customers can't do much either...

Hello everyone Migros is the most important partner of Swiss agriculture. It maintains an active relationship with farmers and is committed to selling their products. In this role, it also supports Swiss fruit and vegetable producers in difficult situations. For example, if the harvest is damaged by natural forces such as hail or frost or is smaller or larger due to weather conditions. For example, we offered mountain potatoes from the Engadin in selected stores via "Ganz schön anders". Due to high temperatures and drought, the potatoes were infested with humpback scab. https://www.migros.ch/de/genossenschaften/migros-luzern/angebot/supermarkt/sm-vm/ganz-schoen-anders.html However, we were also able to use "Ganz schön anders" for two months on oversized white and red cabbages, for example, and thus support our suppliers in selling their products. Without the influence of corona, the cabbages would have been used in the catering trade: https://twitter.com/migros/status/1369299384635166721 We also process large or misshapen vegetables such as giant carrots in the food industry for convenience products and in our catering trade. Best regards Sebastian
