Inedible bananas

Ungeniessbare Bananen

It happened in Migros Stockerstrasse. I bought my organic bananas as usual. When I tried to peel them, I had already failed, sliced open with a knife. Woody, fibrous, like rubber on the inside. Simply inedible - so back to the store. Up to this point, everything is still okay, which can happen with the quantities handled. Return - money back, all right. But then ...

I point out to the store manager that this product is unsaleable and should be removed. We open another sample together, same thing. Brief result:

Today, a good 2 weeks later, she tells me: "The head office has not yet decided what to do with it. They are talking to the supplier". I've often found (with strawberries, for example) that Migros disposes of spoiled or inedible produce at the checkout. Thank you Migros. Same store, one week later: pizza with a black base, exchanged, others with a black base were left for sale. Who turns the pizza over before buying it? Who runs twice to buy/complain?

Several times in different Migros I have asked for visibly spoiled goods to be removed. I always stayed there (if there was time) until they had cleared it away.

Today I told the store manager that I had tipped these goods at the head office's feet. My store wouldn't sell anything like that.

Some people might now say "why don't you shop somewhere else".

Good idea, if the supermarkets hadn't destroyed all the small retailers. Luckily there are still the Turkish stores - that's where I buy my fresh produce from now on when I do my bulk shopping. I just go to one more store. I no longer buy meat from Migros either. There's only one store around Stockerstrasse, so they can do or not do anything they like there.

Migros, you get a ??? for that.

Hello DerQualitätschecker

Thank you for your message. I am very sorry that you have had several bad experiences with our products. Of course, this really shouldn't happen. Basically, you have chosen the right path by giving the feedback directly to those responsible on site.

I will now also pass this on to the relevant product and cooperative managers.

Thank you for being so attentive. Customers like you help us to constantly improve the quality of our offering. As I said, I will now inform other departments internally about the problem so that the necessary steps can be taken.

Kind regards

Tanja

Hello Tanja

Thank you very much for your quick response. Would it be possible to call me by my first name? I don't like this pseudo-modern way of addressing some companies. There is a reason why our language has a formal and an informal form of address.

But it's okay to call Migros by their first name? If you look around here, everyone is on first-name terms.

Dear DerQualitätschecker

Of course I can address you as "you" if you wish. As it is customary in forums or on Facebook and other similar platforms to be on first-name terms, we have also adopted this form of address for Migipedia. However, I understand if some customers prefer to be addressed as "surname" :-).

Best regards

Tanja

Me again in a moment. I have already received feedback from the cooperative managers.

Based on your message, they immediately inspected a few more boxes of organic bananas and found that some of them had not ripened sufficiently. As a result, they remained fibrous and were difficult to peel. This defect only affected individual bunches of bananas in one crate and could not be seen from the outside. As a result, the bananas were simply not discovered during the goods inspection.

This year, the Migros Cooperative Zurich has already sold over 3000 tons of conventionally grown bananas and around 2000 tons of organic bananas. We can assure you that we attach great importance to quality controls even with these huge quantities. So far, we have not received any further reports on the quality of the organic bananas.

Nevertheless, those responsible are very pleased that you have informed us of your observations so that they can step up checks and get to the bottom of the causes.

Unfortunately, the point of sale's statement is inexplicable. Those responsible will of course investigate this matter and apologize at this point.

Best wishes and have a nice day.

Tanja

Migros is a company, I wasn't addressing a person. How does that sound to you "Migros, you get ..." - German is just difficult. The correct phrase would be "In return, she gets ..." the company.

And you can all be on first-name terms as long as you want. You can do everything the masses do. But you don't have to impose it on everyone.

Besides, it's none of your business and you can save yourself such comments.

Hello Tanja, thank you very much for your inquiry and your feedback. I am aware that such things can happen with these handling volumes.

This article has always been flawless for years. The only thing I would sometimes wish for is more mature ones. They are really good when they get brown spots. Sometimes they are harvested so early that they don't reach this level of ripeness even if they are left lying around.

In general, I just see that there is sometimes not much interest in perfectly ripe produce in the stores. I think it's good that Migros always reacts - and does something about it. Thank you for that.

Best regards and have a nice Thursday.
