Why does Migros still not offer whole tomatoes or tomato pieces in a jar, only in a tin? I haven't even found this in the Alnatura range, only the 240g tomato pieces in a tin. Preserving in a jar is just as easy, isn't it?

Cans are lighter, stackable and have less impact on the environment.
"Metal cans are very energy-intensive to produce. And unlike drinks packaging, there is no reusable system for jars. Although it can be recycled and melted down, this process is also energy-intensive. The Federal Environment Agency also classifies disposable glass as the most environmentally harmful packaging."

The responsible department is aware of your request and is keeping an eye on it. What we do offer in jars is the Sélection Napoletana sauce with whole cherry tomatoes (item number 1532.364). However, the widespread impression that certain materials are generally harmful to the environment and other materials - such as wood or paper - are generally environmentally friendly is not correct. In order to evaluate the most environmentally friendly packaging, we calculate life cycle assessments for various packaging solutions. These show us how high the environmental impact of packaging is over its entire life cycle. Life cycle assessments are also informative when it comes to comparing paper and plastic, for example. Of course, one kilogram of paper is more environmentally friendly than one kilogram of plastic. But the fact is that it usually takes a lot more paper to package a product. The correct disposal of packaging and products is important. While in many countries the majority of waste is still sent to landfill, in Switzerland almost all waste is recycled or thermally recovered in modern waste incineration plants. Migros supports its customers in disposing of their waste and offers a comprehensive take-back system that goes beyond the legal requirements. Kind regards, Luisa

Alnatura is an independent German company and not a Migros subsidiary. The Migros Cooperative Zurich has concluded an agreement with Alnatura to offer its products throughout Switzerland in its own Alnatura supermarkets and in selected Migros branches.
